Some of them were expected to be related to the Embarked Force, but there is no detail available on exactly what is involved.
WESTLANT 19 with Queen Elizabeth should have included rotary wing trials for opening up simultaneous operations of up to 10 or 12 Merlin sized helicopters, including two spot ops abreast down the lenght of the deck. This is a key capability for future "LPH" work.

Both ships will eventually aim for the same level of capability, even if, due to the time that passes between a refit and another, one of the two will end up always being ahead of the other in fit out, as every refit results in some change or addition.

Gabrielehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01623558391676151582noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-442909239199162925.post-4370708050541208642019-12-30T21:10:11.984+01:002019-12-30T21:10:11.984+01:00Thanks!Thanks!Gabrielehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01623558391676151582noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-442909239199162925.post-43288129562666779442019-12-30T21:10:01.318+01:002019-12-30T21:10:01.318+01:00Thanks! A brilliant explanation of the roles a carrier can play, by the way.

My question really falls into two parts:

The first is a question about the carrier air group that both carriers will have. Will it usually be a “set” complement of fixed-wing F-35Bs; Merlins (HM2 anti-submarine version and Crowsnest); Chinooks; Apaches and Wildcats? Or will the air group be more “tailored” to individual missions?

The second question follows on from that. There was a lot of discussion over a year ago about whether the Prince of Wales would be more adapted to a commando supporting role than Queen Elizabeth. Would the Prince of Wales air group be more likely to include a complement of Merlin HC4 commando-carrying helicopters then? In connection with this last point, have you heard any news about the Prince of Wales being more tailored to the commando role, e.g. with different arrangements, equipment, etc, to better suit such a role or has the whole idea been quietly abandoned?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-442909239199162925.post-73230809573132653592019-12-27T17:09:01.374+01:002019-12-27T17:09:01.374+01:00Well written as always...
